I'm more then a lil late but I feel like sharing this.
Less then a month ago, I was sleeping in my apartment (I live alone) after a long day at work. I somehow forgot to lock the door. It felt like I have forgotten when I was dosing off, but I just convinced myself it's fine, I probably locked it without noticing. Turns out I didn't.
Around 3 am I wake up in my dark bedroom and I see a silhouette of a dude some 1.5 m from the edge of my bed. He wasn't large or scary, skinny looking fella standing not taller then 1.75 m. It takes me a milisec to be wide awake and realize I didn't expect a guest at 3 am surveying my room. I freak out, let out a battle roar that send him bolting out the room. I chase him outside of my apartment, down the stairs and outside the apartment building.
It was really dark outside. He slammed both the front door and my apartment door in my face so by the time I opened them and was standing outside, I couldn't hear footsteps anymore so I didn't know where to continue my pursuit. Considering i was in my underwear and barefoot, I gave up and went back to count my losses.
There were 2 laptops, a DSLR and an I-pad in my living room, all of them untouched and placed where I left them. He took all the cash out of my wallet (around \$50) and nothing else. Not bad considering all the things that could have gone down because of my recklessness.
I was a little shaken the next few day and from then on have made it a religious habit to check my front door at least 3 times before I hit the hay.
2 days ago, I am falling asleep. I get really intense dreams sometimes and they continue manifesting themselves into the space I inhabit. I've seen figures in my room, chalk covered people facing the corner of my room, people laughing, other creepy shit. Not too often anymore, but I still do get sleep paralysis quite often.
I am still a lil freaked out by my visitor so I tend to be extra anxious in my apartment. Back to falling asleep 2 days ago. There is a window behind the headboard of the bed. It lights up the room decently and the shades were open. All lights are off. I am still half-asleep, I open my eyes.
I see a silhouette walking towards me from the door at the end of the room. His face slowly lighting up as he approaches me rapidly. He has dark, black hair and dark, angry eyes. For a second, I am locked and unable to move... just watching Him edging towards my bed.
In an instant all my muscles sprain to action and my first instinct is to let out another battle roar\^(c). Second reaction - through my pillow at him as hard as possible in an attempt to stun him so I can get off the bed. The adrenalin running through me slows time down... I see my pillow fly right on target and just goes through the intruder and hits the wall behind. He slowly blends into the shadows of the ceiling and disappears into thin air.
I realize immediately it was just a dream, but the image is still stuck in my head. I feel ashamed and I am convinced my neighbors think I am insane at this point. But His eyes, His determination as he was approaching me, and just how realistic my fear was at that very moment... I still get the heebie jeebies thinking about it.
I am a grown man and I'm not afraid to admit, I have slept with the light on for 2 days now. I will for at least a few more days. Or a week. Or forever.
TLDR: Your mind can be scarier then a home invasion
